It seems to me that Palin's role in the campaign has been changed to VP candidate in name only. Today Palin spent the day in a remote location in Philadelphia. No public rallies, no press conferences, and no interviews from Palin the entire day. So, what was she up to today?
The Alaska governor, along with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, spent about 45 minutes sipping a skinny white chocolate mocha and talking privately with four women whose children are serving in the military overseas.

On the surface, there is nothing wrong with meeting with a group of women to discuss issues such as Iraq. But, let's be real. Palin's role has been reduced to sipping tea and cookies. Palin, a candidate for Vice President, was tucked away somewhere with the girls. I do not know about you, but if I were a Republican, I would be pissed. If I were a Republican and gave money to McCain's campaign, I would request a refund asap. The campaign seems to be so ashamed of her, they have her hiding in some remote location sipping mocha. To me, McCain's treatment of Palin is sexist. I just cannot see a male VP being assigned to a coffee shop during the most critical period of the campaign. Now granted, Palin is a walking time bomb. But, I think they could have provided her with a little more responsibility, my goodness.
And for those who believe she will surprise us during the debate, I say, I doubt it. It is not because of her level of competence, but confidence. When you are asked to hang out at coffee shops and keep your mouth shut, I think it becomes very difficult to then walk on stage and perceive yourself to be on equal footing.
Case in point, here is Palin's response to a question about the bail out:
"
I’m thankful that John McCain is able to have some of those provisions implemented in that Paulson proposal," she said. "I’m glad that John McCain’s voice was heard." She did not elaborate or take follow-up questions from reporters.
If I were a Republican, I would be so embarrassed.
